A SCOTTISH software company has grown into one of Europe's leading multimedia educational publishers in 10 years. Lander Software was established in 1986 as a partnership between education and private enterprise.

It now produces entertaining programs in French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Swedish, Hebrew and Icelandic for use in schools and at home. Other languages are soon to be added.

The company will exhibit two new CD-Rom programs at the Hanover trade fair: Hooray for Spelling and Hooray for Maths, which children use to practise basic spelling and arithmetic skills. The programs both use state-of-the-art graphics which include the latest 3D animation techniques, are easy to use, and run in Windows as well as MS-DOS.

They can be customised to help motivate children of all ages and abilities. ``Users' results are recorded - and can be viewed on screen, enabling problem areas to be highlighted and targeted,'' says Professor Ron Lander, chairman of the company. ``This customisation is fundamental to the growth of the program, ensuring long life and value for money.''

Another firm on the trade mission, Glasgow-based ACS (UK) Ltd, has the European rights to Worldlink, an American program which will allow mobile or remote computer workstations around the world to communicate as if they were in the same office.

It will take just one click of the ``mouse'' instead of having to ``dial-in'' to a series of numbers and extensions. ``Worldlink turns multiple `dial-ins' into a simple, single communication,'' says director Eddie Young.
