Word of advice: GMB union general secretary John Edmonds meets training supervisor Jan Robson and trainee Lynne Cook during a visit to the Hawick knitwear firm of Lyle and Scott yesterday. He warned that Scotland's textile industry must concentrate on high-quality products and avoid the trap of trying to compete with cheap imports from Third World manufacturers. He also called for more investment throughout the industry and improved employee training.
