SACKED Arsenal manager Bruce Rioch was said yesterday to be ``very aggrieved and very upset'' by his dismissal.

The Scot's lawyer, Mel Goldberg, said Rioch had ``done a good job in his year in charge'' and was not to blame for the failure to sign big-name players.

Goldberg also felt Arsenal had made a mistake by dismissing Rioch so soon before the new season.

``Having got the team playing reasonable football with a different system, he obviously needed time to get it all together,'' said Goldberg.

``Whoever comes in now won't be able to get the team changed in a year and, if it is Arsene Wenger, he may not be free until November.

``If that happens, the season is a third of the way down the line so I suspect the results won't be very good.''

Meanwhile, Arsenal yesterday confirmed the signing of Frenchmen Remi Garde from Strasbourg and Patrick Viera from AC Milan.

q SKY Television yesterday announced two major additions to what is already set to become the most televised British football season in history.

The satellite company will show England's first two World Cup qualifiers exclusively live from Moldova on September 1 and Georgia on November 9, and are also launching live coverage of the Spanish League starting in September.

With the launch of Sky Sports Three from tomorrow, giving their subscribers an extra 73 hours of sports programmes every week, their three channels will broadcast more than 170 live games in the coming 10 months.
