THE British women's Olympic team ended a two-game losing sequence in Madrid yesterday when they drew 1-1 with Olympic champions, Spain.
Spain opened in 25 minutes when Lucis Lopez lobbed goalkeeper Jo Thompson but Mandy Nicholls quickly equalised with a solo effort.
In San Diego, Scotland's men's Under-21 side beat the USA women's Olympic squad 3-2 in an exhibition match. James McBlane, James Burns, and Euan Miller scored for Scotland.

OLYMPIC yachtsman Lawrie Smith was yesterday named as the skipper for Team EF's crew in the 1997-98 Whitbread Round the World Race. Team EF vice-president John Salen said Smith, who won a bronze medal in the Soling class at the Barcelona Olympics four years ago, had always been his first choice.
Speedway
SCOTTISH Monarchs rider Mike Faria could be hit with a huge fine, or face suspension, on Friday. The American is in trouble with the governing FIM after an incident at this month's Overseas Final.
Faria, along with 12 others, refused to use new solid block tyres in the meeting, despite orders to do so. The final went ahead but the 13 rebels, who reverted to their own Dunlop tyres, were thrown out of the World Championship by the FIM after a weekend trial.
Basketball
GLASGOW Brightsiders, the nearly team of Scottish basketball, have struck a bright note for the future by landing a new sponsorship deal. The team, who for the past three years or more have been tipped for stardom, are to be known as Glasgow Sports Division next season, thanks to a deal with Tom Hunter's Scottish retail giant Sports Division.

LIVERPOOL'S Peter Culshaw stopped South Africa's Commonwealth flyweight champion Daniel Ward in the third round in Stevenage last night. Culshaw put Ward on the canvas and the holder was duly halted by referee Richie Davies after another flurry of hefty rights.
