IN the wake of considerable public speculation and comment on the meaning of the new Scottish Tory Lion logo, I find it surprising that there was any doubt about what it stood for, and indeed the pathetic attempts of opponents to belittle the initiative are well wide of the mark.

The true imagery is of a thrusting, aggressive Scottish Tory lion, with claws bared, tearing at the bleak red wall of Socialism in Scotland and discarding pieces of the wall behind it as it attacks with renewed vigour.

The current shambles which is the Scottish Labour Party is certainly more ripe for dismantling than for some considerable time and this fact has whetted the Lion's appetite for action!

On another major topic of debate in recent days - MPs' salary - surely it is time for potential MPs to face some form of academic testing which would label them suitable material to earn the new higher salaries.

If the disgraceful, disgusting spectacle put across by some Labour back benchers as they howled abuse at Government MPs both in Parliament and at the Grand Committee in Dumfries were to be shown on TV across the UK, Tony Blair would face an impossible task in convincing the voters of Middle England that his party will ever be fit to govern in the foreseeable future.

If MPs are to receive their huge increases, it is time for them to behave as if they warranted such salary levels. The public might then be more likely to approve of the increase.
