Peter, the truest most loyal friend, confident and for me, like a grandad, we’d do homework, he’d laugh at my ineptitude and help me learn, we’d laugh and play chess, go walks and enjoy time together, we could be thick as thieves all because of how special he was, his influence will live on in all the memories he gave. What a wonderful gentleman in every sense. Rest well Peter, see you again one day.

I worked for Peter as a young engineer back in 1983, and fondly recall his influence on my career. Where his expertise and knowledge were a given, it was his kindness, calmness and especially his humour that I most clearly remember. As others have mentioned, his sense of fun and zest for life were infectious. Even during more serious issues, he was always able to lift the mood with a rallying ‘one liner’! He and his lovely wife Ray seemed such a loving couple, and we enjoyed their company on many a night out. My thoughts with the family at this sad time.

He was my friend, like a grandad, and the most amazing man, we’d do my homework and he’d laugh at my ineptitude, we’d play chess or just chat, and always laugh. I wanted him to visit every day and he did. Every moment was a joy, I wish we’d had infinitely longer. A brilliant man and a gentleman of the highest degree. God Bless you Peter, Rest well until we meet again.

Peter,
A true friend and gentleman who cared for all.
Whilst working with Peter in RM&EE Dept of then BR we became friends and to continue that friendship after we both retired. Peter was so highly regarded and respected within BR that he had more retirement farewell ‘Dos’ than ever known with each one filled with fun and laughter.
Goodbye to a dear friend, a true gentleman.
