SMITH - Alexander J C ( Ian ) Ian passed peacefully on 8th May 2022. Born in Glasgow : Educated at Bearsden Academy : Qualified Actuary. He left the Scottish Mutual's Glasgow office for Canada and joined William M Mercer a subsidiary of Marsh and MacLennan in 1961. He moved to New York in 1975 and after a succession of senior appointments within the Marsh and MacLennan organisation was appointed Group Chairman and Chief Executive in 1992 : a role he held until retirement in 2000. From 1999 to 2007 Ian was Chairman of the Central Park Conservancy. Throughout his life he was an enthusiastic supporter of Carnegie Hall : The Weill Cornell Medical Hospital in New York and many Galleries and Museums in the Country of his birth.
