Roy was indeed a Gentleman and an exceptional “Old School” Estate Agent who was both respected and admired by clients & colleagues alike.

He was a rare breed, a true Estate Agent, and the one that gave me my opportunity in the estate agency industry which I still relish/enjoy working in 35 years later.

When he started his Roy Slater Agency, we were both in his Shawlands Office one day and we drew straws as to who was going out to do the For Sale Boards and who was staying in to do the Window Cards for the New Properties For Sale. This was the Doyen of Glasgow Estate Agency and me, an early 20 something Trainee Estate Agent! He drove a Jaguar and I drove something much more ordinary. This memory showed the character of this humble man, who brought the iconic Slater Hogg & Howison to life and then re-launched under his, by then, iconic name/brand - Roy Slater.

My mother Phoebe Gilchrist Lumsden worked closely with Roy in the 70’s/80’s and as much as Roy held my mother in very high regard, my mother maintained that no-one could hold a candle to Roy Slater, and to this day my mother states that Roy Slater WAS Estate Agency!

Along with many, many others we are both deeply saddened by the news of Roy’s passing. He remains Mr Estate Agency to us, and no doubt to many others.

Farewell Roy Slater - THE Estate Agent.

So sad to hear this news today........ for almost 50 years we were business colleagues and friends and he was an inspiration in both rôles. There are no adequate words to describe my admiration for him and sadness that he is no longer with us...... he will be sorely missed
