Michael had a major influence on my career and life. He was my supervisor for my part-time PhD, along with Axel Johne, and was one of his "Bakers Dozen", his 13 PhD students who became Professors, (he may well have more than that now!!). He looked after me and my wife when we moved to Scotland, gave me opportunities to help develop my career, gave advice when asked and was a good social partner at all the academic conferences, many of which he initiated by creating MEG. He will be greatly missed by many people.

I knew Michael from my time on the board of The Chartered Institute of Marketing and he was always great company and a font of marketing knowledge. So sorry to hear of his passing but very glad to have had the pleasure of knowing such a lovely, charming gentleman. Rest in Peace Prof
