James Patrick (Jim) Ralph

I worked under Jim Ralph for 20 years at Leeds Dental Institute where he was professor on prosthetics. I worked in 5ge dental lab. Always a gentleman. One funny story springs to mind. A full full try in had been sent to the clinic for a try in. The student dentist involved had moved some if the lower anterior teeth, and, in the process, had put one back on backwards. Then, noticing this funny sticky out thing on the front of the tooth (the cingulum) had ground it off! Cause, us technicians spotted this straight away and were having a good laugh about it when Jim appeared behind us (and his ability to silently suddenly appear was uncanny) and asked what we were laughing about. When we told him what we'd found his big hand shot out, grabbed the articulator, and with a "I think I'll have a word with the young man!" he turned and left. Well, that was even funnier!
