Dear Ian, Thanks so much for replying to the notification of Iains death. It was a long hard struggle for us both and we all miss him very much. We have so far raised almost £10,000 in Iains name for Altzheimers Scotland from the many donations sent from family, patients and friends. Iain would have been proud that he was still able to help people. Hope to catch up with you and Morag when Covid allows. Best Wishes from Elaine

Dear Robbie, Thank you so much for replying to the notification of Iains death. He has struggled with Altzheimers for eight years after a long career as a GP in Castle Douglas. Iain was a very kind and caring doctor and almost £10,000 has been donated in his name on the just giving website in his name for Altzheimers Scotland. He would have been very proud that he was still helping people. Iain and I have four daughters and two sons and 11 grandchildren who have been a great support to me. It was lovely to hear from you Robbie. Very Best Wishes , Elaine Carmichael and family

Deeply saddened to read of Iain's death .
We were life long friends, and fellow medics, and have known each other since Primary 1 Schooldays .
My classmate, a much better golfer than I, and after university our professional paths diverged.
Only a few days ago, my partner and I were talking about Castle Douglas and of course Iain immediately came into our conversation, with me sharing lovely memories of a skilful ,compassionate doctor and warm ,caring GP, just like his Father before him.
Thoughts are now with you Elaine and all of the Family he loved, and sending our love at this time.
He will long be remembered as one of the very Best Doctors .

Iain was an outstanding example of a Family Doctor. Not only was he an excellent GP but he was a wonderful friend to very many people. Scotland needs more people such as Iain, not fewer. Such very sad news.

Let me offer my sincerest condolences to Elaine and the whole family. It was pure chance that I was Googling on the internet from Toronto Canada and came upon this sad news. I was a chum of Iain's at the Ardrossan Academy and later at Glasgow University. Our paths then diverged - mine took me off to Australia, then Canada, and Iain's to a career in General Practice in Scotland. In fact we have not met or spoken together these past...50?.. years. But despite that, it is always sad to hear of the passing of close chums of our youth. Despite these many years and many miles of separation Iain was still in my thoughts. So let me extend my thoughts and prayers now to Elaine and the family.
