WILLOUGHBY - Dr Michael Lawrence Nesbit Willoughby, AM Former head of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology at Princess Margaret Hospital, Perth Western Australia, and Consultant at Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow, passed away peacefully at home at 8.30pm on Tuesday 23rd June 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Fiona; his sons Jonathan, James, and Henry; daughters-in-law Coralie, Thu, and Lucy; and grandchildren Thomas, August, Inigo, Jasmine, Massimo, Elodie, and Aidan. Rest peacefully Michael and take our love with you. (04/08/1927-23/06/2020)

So sad to hear of the passing of such a great man. Their were many staff at yorkhill children's hospital whom I owe a great debt of gratitude but fundamentally I would not be here if it was not for Dr Willoughby.

I am so sad to hear of Dr Willoughby's passing. I was 10yrs, now 56yrs old, when I met this Amazing man at Yorkhill Childrens Hospital, he saved my life. I had a rare bone disease, I attended his leukaemia clinic and he used a new drug called Vinblastine which worked. This man was completely dedicated to all his patients and will never be forgotten. What can I say about this wonderful man, admitted to Royal Hospital for Sick Children Glasgow 1972 as a child ..with ALL I owe my life to him. Rest in peace He was an amazing doctor the medical world has lost one of it's best

Dr Michael Willoughby was my mentor in the early days of paediatric oncology.(1965-75) He was a founding member of the MRC working party on Childhood Leukemia and integral to improving the care of UK children with these diseases. Like many overseas MDs I remember fondly the time spent visiting his department. I send my condolences to his family.

My son , George Walker, was a patient of Doctor Willoughby in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children , Glasgow. Thank you to a wonderful man for his kindness and understanding over the years. Our sincere condolences to his family.
