Father Dan Friel

Published on 22/01/2013

FRIEL — FATHER DAN. We, the family of the late Father Daniel Friel (retired parish priest of St Flannan’s, Kirkintilloch and for the past 20 years resident in St Patrick’s, Dumbarton) wish to thank all those who sent sympathy cards, Mass cards and letters of sympathy, doctors and nurses of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley and the Vale of Leven Hospital, district nurses and the Dumbarton doctors who visited him regularly in the Chapel House. We would like to thank, too, the housekeeper Irene McCallion and her helpers in the Chapel House for all the loving care and attention they gave to Father Dan all the time he was in Dumbarton, especially in his latter years when he wasn’t well. We thank all the parishioners of St Patrick’s for making Father so happy in Dumbarton, especially those who did the catering. We thank those, too, who came to the Rosary Services, Vigil Service and the Requiem Mass, and the choir and altar servers for a very uplifting liturgy. We thank Canon George Bradburn (Dean) and Archbishop Emeritus Mario Conti for attending the Vigil Service and speaking so nicely about Father Dan, and, of course, Archbishop Philip Tartaglia for being principal concelebrant at the Mass and also speaking so highly of Father Dan, and we thank the many concelebrants too. The large attendance, both of clergy and layfolk, showed the high esteem in which Father Dan was held. Above all we would like to thank Canon Gerard Conroy and Father Anthony Gallagher of St Patrick’s. We can’t find words to express our gratitude to them for the love and care they showed to Father Dan especially in his final illness, it was charity in action. If we have omitted anyone who feels they should have been included in this message of gratitude, please count yourselves in, and everyone will be included in a Mass offered for the intentions of all.
