Cataract Surgery & Treatments

Cataract surgery has changed dramatically, and outcomes improved in the last 20 years, with laser assisted surgery becoming a more popular option for patients. This is further complimented by premium lens implant options which can provide better outcomes, potentially eliminating the need to ever wear glasses again after surgery.

Eye Care Scotland is the only provider of laser assisted cataract surgery in a hospital environment in Scotland. As a result, its dedicated team of highly trained Optometrists, Ophthalmic Nurses and Technicians fully support our team of senior, local consultants to provide a personalised and affordable service to all of our patients.

Selecting the most suitable treatment

Eye Care Scotland provides a range of options for cataract patients using different surgical techniques and lens options, aiming to provide you with a personalised treatment plan that best suits your individual needs.

Standard Cataract Surgery

Standard cataract surgery is the most conventional method of cataract removal where the incisions are made and cataract is removed manually by the consultant.

Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery

This is where the procedure is carried out using a very precise (femtosecond) laser. This method provides the consultant with a higher degree of precision and also gives patients a more customised treatment plan.

Lens Options

Eye Care Scotland provides a range of lenses for patients undergoing refractive lens exchange surgery that aim to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses, as well as correcting any pre-existing astigmatism.

Monofocal Lens: This is suitable for patients who have issues with one vision and are most commonly used to correct distance sight. With monofocal lens you will still require visual aids for short and intermediate distances.

Multifocal Lens: Unlike monofocal, multifocal lenses will correct the vision on all sight distances and aim to significantly reduce the need for any visual aids after surgery.

Toric Lens: This deals specifically with the correction of astigmatism (distorted or blurred vision at all distances). The Toric lens option is also available in both monofocal and multifocal ranges.
