I guess we should take a wee look at red Burgundy after I waxed lyrical about the white stuff last week, but the rouge version is a different matter altogether.

Maybe its just my palate, but the only red Burgundy I’ve ever taken to has numbers on the price tag that resemble the mileage on a second hand car.

While the white stuff can make a graceful and tasty entrance just above a tenner, with few exceptions, anything less than twenty quid for red Burgundy is going to disappoint. Red Burgundy by the way is all produced from Pinot Noir, a grape that makes relatively expensive wines all over the world but dont let my price negativity turn you off because for a special occasion wine, a Nuit St George or a Vosne Romane can really hit the mark.

You are looking for a wine with an earthy nose and ripe warm plummy, stewed flavours on a velvety palate and they partner pork dishes and stews as if the two were symbiotic, but take a deep breath at the shop counter!

A friend introduced me to this wine and Im ever so graceful for the nose alone. I could take in the aroma alone and be happy with its layers of autumn fruits. The palate is light but complex and its got a long finish. All in all, a cracking find.

Enticing aromas of black cherries with a rich fruity palate with hints of oak. A great introduction to red Burgundy without needing to sell your car!
