Lazy Susan discuss double acts, gorilla drummers and being slow-clapped by a drunk.

Tell us about your Fringe show

Our new show is called ‘Double Act’. It’s loosely about a duo that have been on the road for a long time. It’s somewhere between character comedy and sketch.

Best thing about the Fringe?

Seeing shows, doing your own and hanging out with your friends everyday. It's like being back at university for a month: late nights, fast-food, massive debt…

Worst thing about the Fringe?

Flyering. And also the sheer hugeness of it. There’s so much going on and you’re just slogging away at you’re little show which can be overwhelming.

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

As punters about five years. As Lazy Susan this is our second year.

Favourite Fringe venue?

Only because we saw Christine Macheene there last year and lost our minds, the Belly Dancer in Underbelly. It’s really grotty though.

Best Fringe memory?

I was walking down towards the Meadows in the pouring rain and under a tree was a man in a gorilla suit, playing a tiny drum kit. It was just the ticket.

Best heckle?

We were slow-clapped by a large drunk man in the audience last year. It didn’t feel malicious or anything, just very strange. Like time had slowed down for him.

Craziest on stage experience?

We did a gig in basement comedy club when a fire broke out. For a couple of minutes everyone in the room just watched smoke fill the air, then we started moving (after we’d grabbed the wigs).

What’s on your rider?

Just water. Sorry to disappoint.

How do you wind down after a show?

In theory with a drink but as the festival is a month-long that is sometimes substituted with a walk.

What do you love about Scotland?

All of it! The people, the landscape, the fried food...

What do you like about Edinburgh?

The atmosphere, the architecture, Arthur's Seat... We can never wait to get back up there.

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Freya is half Scottish and once danced the Highland Jig in a primary school talent show.

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

Something akin to a quick, cruel jab that's a bit cheeky as well.

Favourite joke?

Well we saw very recently, and even though we’d hate to give Tom Parry any free press, an excellent visual joke by him involving lots of water. You should see it.

Lazy Susan will perform at the Pleasance Dome on August 11-18 and 20-31.
