What’s the story?

Neighbours.

Didn’t that go off the air?

It sure did. The long-running Australian soap bowed out on Channel 5 last year, axed after declining ratings. However, the hankies of weeping fans had barely dried when it was announced that streaming giant Amazon was stepping in to revive it.

A recap please?

Really? We’re talking about one of the most famous programmes on the planet …

Set in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, Neighbours helped launch the careers of such household names as Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe during its 37 drama-packed years.

Originally shown in the UK on BBC One, where it debuted in 1986, the show moved to Channel 5 in 2008, which remained its home until 2022.

And now?

Neighbours is back from the dead. Like the legendary scene in Dallas when a grinning and very-much-alive Bobby Ewing stepped out of the shower.

Who is in the cast?

A raft of viewer favourites including Stefan Dennis as Paul Robinson, Alan Fletcher as Karl Kennedy, Jackie Woodburne as Susan Kennedy and Ryan Moloney as Toadie Rebecchi.

Guy Pearce and Annie Jones will reprise their roles as Mike and Jane, while Mischa Barton joins the line-up as “a mysterious American who arrives on Ramsay Street with a secret agenda”.

When can I watch?

Neighbours premieres exclusively on Amazon Freevee on Monday.
