Suzi Ruffell: Nocturnal is on at Pleasance Courtyard - Pleasance Below, during August.
- What is your Fringe show about?
This year my show is about being a worrier. I was quite an anxious child and I remember thinking at least when I was a grown up I wouldn’t have so many silly worries. How wrong I was. If anything it is getting worst but luckily I have managed to make it funny.
- How many times/many years have you appeared at the Fringe?
This is my fifth solo hour but I have done the festival 6 times, my first one was a package show with John Kearns, Fin Taylor, Joe Wells and Max Dickens in 2011.
- What’s your most memorable moment from the Fringe?
Last year I had a pretty special run, I loved the show and the audience were just brilliant every day, when I finished the show on that final Sunday I had a little happy relief cry and gave myself the most awful hangover for my flight home the following morning.
- What’s the worst thing about the Fringe?
Its quite long isn’t it? I assume people who live in Edinburgh really feel that, by the third week I feel like we have all got the gist.
- If you were not a performer what would you be doing?
I dread to think. I am not at all academic and I didn’t go to Uni but I don’t mind telling you I am an excellent waitress so I always have that to fall back on.
- How do you prepare for a performance?
I usually have a song that I listen to on the way to the Pleasance courtyard, last year it was Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5, I am not sure what it will be this year. I also greet my audience at the door of my venue, I like them to feel they are welcomed by me and it also helps my nerves if I say hi before I start the show.
- Favourite thing about being in Edinburgh?
I love the city, its so beautiful. I really enjoy all the extra shows like ‘Best of the Fest’ and ‘Comedy All Stars’. As a comic you spend so much of your life on your own on the road I love being in a city with so many comedy pals for the month.
- What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?
I had a go on some bagpipes once. I also love the Edinburgh Dungeons and I also once did an underground tour of ‘Mary Kings Close’ which was brilliant. I also wear a fair bit of tartan!
- Favourite Scottish food/drink?
I love shortbread and I don’t mind a whisky- great for a tired voice half way through the festival.
- Sum up your show in three words
Hopefully really funny!

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
