Enter the Dragons is on at Pleasance Dome during August.
Emma Edwards and Abigail Dooley answer our questuions.
- What is your Fringe show about?
It takes the mythological quest and reframes it from the perspective of an older woman. It's a rallying cry for anyone considering ageing. We basically give ageing a good kick up the arse!
- How many times/many years have you appeared at the Fringe?
Abigail was up last year with a show but prior to that neither of us had been in a Fringe show for about 25 years! It's quite a comeback.
- What’s your most memorable moment from the Fringe?
Emma did a student version of Marat/Sade, above a bus station, at Edinburgh Fringe 1987. The whole company slept in the venue and lived off snakebite and pot noodles. By the end of the run Emma was so knackered she fell asleep in the lost property cupboard, cuddled up to a stuffed sheep and some bagpipes, and missed the last show. This was fine as there was no one in the audience.
Abigail performed in a show with a high-maintenance, scene-stealing rabbit called Mr Showbiz. She still has the scars.
- What’s the worst thing about the Fringe?
Cobbles in heels. Also about half way through it all gets a bit Groundhog Day.
- If you were not a performer what would you be doing?
Abigail would have become some kind of mystic. She'd be wearing a lot of velvet and keeping crystals in her bra for good luck. Maybe with a pet ferret.
Emma would have a job involving capes, shoes, cutting the bullshit, cocktails and wigs. So maybe the House of Lords.
- How do you prepare for a performance?
Two mile run at dawn, Qigong sword practice, three hour vocal warm-up, character meditation, audience focus session, primal scream and we're ready.
- Favourite thing about being in Edinburgh?
Forgetting about reality for a month.
- What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?
We've spent many summers wearing a cagoule.
- Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Can't resist a Tunnocks wafer.
- Sum up your show in three words
Joyful, funny, empowering.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
