GLASGOW’S world music choir is to celebrate 15 years with a concert and new album.
Voicebeat, Glasgow’s world music community choir, is to hold a concert on November 25 at Renfield St Stephens Church to herald the launch of their new album, “In Living Green”.
The choir was founded in 2002 as part of an initiative to help refugees and asylum-seekers integrate in Glasgow.
Voicebeat sing traditional songs in unaccompanied harmony in a range of languages.
Choir members have hailed from countries as diverse as Australia, Hungary, India, Iran, Russia, Singapore and Zimbabwe.
The choir regularly raises funds for charity with their annual summer concert, which is part of the West End festival.

Orchestral Manoeuvres
FOUR new members have been appointed to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s (RSNO) Board of Directors.
Jane Wood, Gurjit Singh Lalli, Neil McLennan and Hugh Bruce-Watt were co-opted to the RSNO Board of Directors at the organisation’s meeting last month.
RSNO Chair Dame Sue Bruce said: “On behalf of the RSNO I would like to welcome Gurjit, Jane, Hugh and Neil to the board.
“This comes at a time when the RSNO expands its work on multiple fronts, including its nationwide learning and engagement initiatives, high-profile recording and international touring.”

Relaxed theatre
THE CITIZENS’ Theatre in Gorbals, Glasgow, will again host Relaxed Performances for its two Christmas shows: Cinderella and One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas.
Relaxed Performances offer freedom of movement within the auditorium, adjustments to sound and lighting on stage and in the auditorium, and a quiet room that can be visited at any point during the performance.
Trained Citizens Theatre staff will also be on hand.
Relaxed performances of Cinderella take place on December 13 at 10.30am and 7pm.
A relaxed performance of One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s show for 3-6 year olds in the Circle Studio, is already sold out.

In step with Gene
THE story of the life of Hollywood actor, dancer, director and choreographer Gene Kelly will be told by his wife Patricia Ward Kelly at the RSNO Centre, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, on Thursday 23 November.
Gene Kelly: The Legacy – An Evening with Patricia Ward Kelly presents a portrait of the artist who created some of the most memorable scenes in film history.
The one-woman performance which was described by the Hollywood Reporter as “…endearingly entertaining…” combines rare and familiar film clips, personal memorabilia and insights drawn from hours of interviews and conversations with her husband.
