GLASGOW has given rise to many great songs, some of which are covered on Napier's new album. Asked about those Glasgow songs he particularly likes, he chose the following:
* There is a Happy Land (Duke Street Jail) - "Traditional, although Jimmy MacGregor and Robin Hall made it famous in a medley with Ye Cannae Shove Yer Granny Aff a Bus."
* Mother Glasgow , written by Dundonian Michael Marra and covered by, amongst others, Hue and Cry, "I still prefer the Michael Marra version - although I’ve heard the Glasgow musician Paul McKenna do a cracker of a version."
* Killermont Street, a brilliant song written by Roddy Frame for Aztec Camera, 30 years ago. Napier: "I recorded this for the new album but it never made the final cut."
* Bridgeton, by Frankie Miller. "It sounds like an American song, like something by The Band or The Faces, with the whirling Hammond organ and Ronnie Wood slide guitar all over it."
