FEIS Sutherland has taken its Ceilidh Trail project to another level by adding recording to the live music experience.
The Sutherland trail, one of eight similar projects supported by umbrella organisation Feisean nan Gaidheal, gave seven young traditional musicians an opportunity to take part in a professional tour across Sutherland and Caithness last summer, performing at events ranging from local concerts and sessions to the popular Highland festival Belladrum.
Following the tour the Sutherland group set up a portable studio in the Fountain Road Church Halls in Golspie where they recorded a five track CD with guidance from acclaimed musician and sound engineer Gordon Gunn. The CD has now been released for sale with support from the Kilbraur Windfarm Community Benefit Trust.

EDINBURGH Folk Club has announced a change in its programme tonight.
Instead of the advertised duo of Calum Stewart & Heikki Bourgault, whose tour has been cancelled, the club will now present a group fronted by the recently crowned BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2017, fiddler Charlie Stewart, pictured.
Stewart, from Glenfarg and currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, will be joined by his partner in their Danny Kyle award-winning duo, piper Ross Miller and by guitarist Luc McNally, best known for his duo with piper-whistle player Eddie Seaman of popular young folk band Barluath. The concert goes ahead at the Summerhall arts hub by the Meadows and begins at 8pm.

FANS of musical theatre can see Disney's cult Broadway production Newsies on Sunday when it is broadcast in cinemas across the U.K. The award-winning show tells the story of the 1899 newsboy strikes in New York City and was filmed last year in Los Angeles. With some original Broadway cast members on board (including Jeremy Jordan and Kara Lindsay as leading duo Jack Kelly and Katherine Plumber), the show has been especially praised for the ensembles energy during the challenging choreography as well as for Alan Menken and Jack Feldman's original score, not to mention a book by Harvey Fierstein. The screenings are likely to attract a new British brigade to the show's devoted army of "Fansies".

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
