Twenty-five British novels have made it on to the longlist for the world's richest literary prize.

Among those nominated by libraries around the world for the 100,000 euro (£71,300) International Dublin Literary Award is The Silkworm, written by JK Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, and Ian McEwan's The Children Act.

BBC journalist Kirsty Wark also makes into the vote with her first novel, The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle.

The most popular book in the longlist is Anthony Doerr's All The Light We Cannot See, which was chosen by 14 libraries in Canada, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands and the USA.

The longlist also includes past winners Colm Toibin, from Ireland, for Nora Webster, and Norwegian Per Petterson for Out Stealing Horses.

The winner will be announced in Dublin on June 9 next year.

Margaret Hayes, Dublin city librarian, spoke of the interest the award sparks around the world.

"Reading groups worldwide each year anticipate the longlist and later the shortlist with excitement and interest," she said.

"From previous experience we know that the 21st winning title will be top of the library readers list for 2016 at home and abroad bringing readers together in an unparalleled international book club."

The British nominees, looking to emulate Jim Grace's win with Harvest last year, were put forward for the prize by libraries in 118 cities and 44 countries.

The list includes 53 novels in translation with works by 44 American, 10 Canadian, 10 Australian, seven Irish, six German and three South African authors.

Other novels in the running include A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James, winner of the 2015 Man Booker Prize and The Back of the Turtle by Thomas King, winner of the 2014 Governor General's Award for Fiction.
