Glasgow’s Star Folk Club has guests from England, Scotland and America during October. Nottingham-based singer and concertina player Steve Turner visits the club tonight, followed by Chicago-born singer-guitarist Marilyn Middleton in a duo with leading Scottish folk guitarist Sandy Stanage on the 13th. London-based Scottish singer-guitarist Bob Wood appears on the 20th and Devon-born bluegrass siblings the Carrivick Sisters sing and play guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, and clawhammer banjo on the 27th. The club meets every Tuesday in The Admiral Bar, Waterloo Street and the music begins at 8.00pm.

Pollok House Arts Society has two Sunday concerts in the library of the 18th century country house near Glasgow in its autumn programme. Retorica, the violin duo of Harriet Mackenzie, pictured, and Philippa Mo, appears on October 11 and cello and piano pairing Joy and James Lisney appear on November 8. Both concerts begin at 5:30pm and dinner is available to follow as an optional extra.

The Clarsach Society has become the twentieth recipient of Hands Up for Trad’s Business Limelight Award. The “Limelights” are awarded monthly in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who contribute, shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today. Based in Edinburgh, the Clarsach Society formed in 1931 and promotes and encourages the playing of the clarsach, the Scottish small harp, through hiring instruments, publishing music and granting scholarships and by organising workshops and events, including the Edinburgh International Harp Festival and an annual young composer award.

Mundell Music continues to bring prominent names from rock music’s heritage to the intimate surroundings of its Backstage at the Green Hotel venue in Kinross. Jefferson Starship, It’s a Beautiful Day, former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, the late Small Faces and Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan, and Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre’s side project are just some of the acts presented.
