Creative Scotland, the national funding and advocacy body for the arts, has announced a new seroes of Open Sessions around Scotland in October and November, full details of which are on the CS website. The sessions are designed to encourage feedback and discussion from people working in, or with an interest in the arts, screen and creative industries in Scotland, and this series intends to focus specifically on reviewing the progress and development of Open Project Funding. There are five of the three hour sessions, in Aberdeen Maritime Museum of Monday October 19, Glasgow's Mitchell Library on Tuesday October 27, the Buccleuch Centre, Langholm on Monday November 2, the Ceilidh Place, Ullapool on Monday November 16, and at North Edinburgh Arts on Thursday November 19. Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter Barbara Nesbitt, pictured, plays a series of concerts in Scotland during October and November. Nesbitt, who left her Georgia home at the age of fifteen and joined a group of musicians in Virginia before heading to San Diego, where she won the Cream of the Crop award, plays Allanwater Brewhouse, Bridge of Allan on Friday, October 23; Avenue, Airdrie (24th); Bully Inn, Quarter, near Hamilton (27th); and Green Hotel, Kinross (28th) before going on to Perth (29th), St Andrews (30th), Gleneagles (31st), and Hawick (November 2).

Come rain or shine, says Usher Hall general manager Karl Chapman, his venue's series of Sunday Symphonies are a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon - and the concert series played a crucial part in the hall celebrating its best ever year in terms of ticket sales. The new season begins at 3pm on October 11 with the Dresden Philharmonic under Michael Sanderling, Beethoven's Third Symphony, and the swift return to the city of cellist Sol Gabetta after her Queen's Hall triumph during the Festival, to play the Elgar concerto.
Future attractions include Vladimir Ashkenazy conducting the Philharmonia (November 8), superstar guitarist Milos Karadaglic with the Royal Northern Sinfonia (November 29), the Academy of St Martin in the Fields with Joshua Bell and Steven Isserlis (January 10), violinist Chloe Hanslip and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra (March 6) , and the Dallas Symphony playing Beethoven's Fifth (April 10).
