One Direction were given a rapturous welcome by fans as they headlined the fourth night of the Apple Music Festival in London.

The boy band opened their set with Steal My Girl in front of a packed audience at the Roundhouse in Camden.

Liam Payne said: "It's amazing to be here. Thank you so much for coming down here to see us. It's the first time we have played in London for ages."

The band, who are due to take a hiatus for at least a year from March, earlier announced the title and release date of their new album in a video message.

Made In The A.M will be released on November 13.

It follows the massive success of Drag Me Down - the first single released from the album - which topped the UK Singles Chart, climbed to third spot in the Billboard Chart in the US and broke streaming records globally.

The band's set included songs from their four previous albums.

Fans who had camped outside for 24 hours to get their hands on unclaimed tickets were thanked by the band.

Payne said: "You guys really are the best fans in the world and those of you who aren't fans will be.

"It has been an amazing five years - thank you so much."

One audience member, named Chloe, had a birthday treat when Harry Styles spotted her banner.

He and his bandmates led the 2,000-strong crowd in singing Happy Birthday to her.

Fans joined in as they played some of their biggest hits including Story of My Life, What Makes You Beautiful and Drag Me Down. The band closed their hour-long set with Best Song Ever.

As they left the stage, Payne said: "Thank you so much for having us. We love you guys, thank you."

Monica Sabourin, a Canadian who lives in London, said the band was just as good without Zayn Malik who left earlier this year.

"I think they are good as a foursome, they are better as a four - I saw them as five," she said.

Fashion designer Stella McCartney and Jake Roche of boy band Rixton were among celebrities who attended the gig.

Roche is engaged to Jesy Nelson of Little Mix who were One Direction's support act.

Following their appearance at the Apple event - the rebranded iTunes Festival - One Direction will play six dates at the O2 arena in London as well as shows in Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Dublin, Belfast and Sheffield.

Canadian star The Weeknd will play at the Apple event at the Camden Roundhouse tonight.

American singer Selena Gomez and models Suki Waterhouse and Bella Hadid were among the celebrities in the audience.
