Last year, Kirsty Mac kickstarted a protest against Julien Blanc’s “dating” seminars in her native Australia that culminated in the controversial pick-up guru having his visa revoked. Her #TakeDownJulienBlanc hashtag trended globally on Twitter and his visa was revoked in other countries too. Including some he wasn’t even planning to visit. This escapade forms the feisty heart of Mac’s debut Edinburgh show, but if you’re expecting a man-hating diatribe that’s only after smiles of solidarity from sisters in the audience, you’re going to be disappointed. Feminazi is raucous and rude, sweary and sexy, as much about pushing Mac’s bad rep as a self-confessed heavy drinker to the fore as it is about taking a feminist stance. This is how an independent woman behaves in the 21st century: boldly, honestly, stepping up to the comedy line and then stepping over it. And that means this show is perfectly pitched for its late-night Fringe slot because, believe me, here’s a stand-up who can give as good as she gets.
