Sherry is the most underrated wine style ever, offering incredible value for money and a simply stunning treat for your tastebuds. Yeah, I love it, or at least, I love the rich ones, the Oloroso’s Creams and Px X Sherries. I’m afraid I’ve struggled over the years to really fall for the drier styles  and while a crisp fino on a hot summer patio can be very refreshing, I’m afraid my heart strings are really pulled by those unctuous rich ones that we love to soak our truffle sponges in.

Oloroso sherry is dry but rich in style with spices and caramelised nuts on the palate. Creams tend to be Oloroso blended with the richer PX sherry and can be quite exquisite, but the real prize in my view comes in the form of the aged PX sherries on their own. Dark and Christmas Cake like with a long creamy finish, they are a real luxury. It’s often aged in Solera systems, giving the added romance that some of the wine in your glass can be really ancient.

Sherry is cool folks, seriously cool but snap the good ones up before everyone jumps on the bandwagon.

Gonzalez Byas ‘Noe’ 30-year-old PX

An absolutely stunning wine with a rich creamy palate almost like liquid sticky toffee pudding. Pour over vanilla ice cream for a luxurious treat.

Walnut Brown

One of my all-time favourites with a name that somehow just fits the palate perfectly. Rich Christmas Cake fruit, caramelised nuts, coffee and burnt sugar to name but a few of the stunningly complex array of flavours.
