Holly White: Videos

Responding to their tendency to work in series, or return to particular themes, this exhibition is organised around three groups of videos made by Holly White between 2014 and 2019. The videos will be presented alongside new textile works, older sculptures and a collection of publications made with different collaborators over the past 15 years.

Jalsaghar

Debjani Baerjee’s exhibition is an intricate exploration of identity, culture and heritage. The title translates to “The Music Room” and hints at a space of cultural expression. The artist’s works delve into the multifaceted nature of her identity as a British Bengali, shaped by her experiences growing up in England during the 1980s.

Imagined Tides

Transport yourself to the coast with Gemma Hare’s abstract seascapes. The Edinburgh College of Art graduate, now living in Aberdeen, creates calming, abstract paintings of the Scottish coast using expressive marks and many layers. She uses a variety of media to create her art including acrylic paint, charcoal, pastels and old map fragments.

The Secret of Success

Created by members of the North Ayrshire Ukrainian community, the artists on display have used the medium of lino printing and storytelling to explore the notion of adventure and their own journey across the world. The exhibition is accompanied by an interpretive story which is written by one of the participants and ties all the individual artworks together.

Opposition and Fellowship

Taking nature as her starting point, Paolozzi Cain presents a series of work that speaks to the invisible process of reconciling opposites. The name of the exhibition is a phrase taken from Richard Wilhelm’s translation of the ancient Chinese book I-Ching. The I-Ching talks about cultivating an attitude that guides us towards balance and harmony and that’s what the artist aims to show.

Hidden Gems

Back in 1909, the people of Biggar came together to display the loan exhibition of Biggar Antiquities. Since then, the community has taken pride in sharing knowledge and preserving memory through objects. More than 100 years later, there’s precious objects from the museum’s vast collection to discover, including those that are rarely on display.

 Mind the Gap

Liz Reid, a full-time artist in Glasgow presents her new large-format mixed media works, inspired by the city centre’s many intriguing urban landmarks and store window displays. The artist has also created 100 small sketches on beer mats created as part of a creative project.

Parallels II

Featuring five talented, Edinburgh-based artists working across jewellery, fine art and illustration.
