The Rhone Valley reds are among the most copied styles around the world which, in itself, tells you all you need to know about this fabulous region.

If you’ve ever enjoyed a shiraz Grenache from Australia or Argentina or a Grenache Mourvèdre blend from South Africa, then the chances are it was inspired by the wine makers of Rhone.

Juicy, jammy wines with enough spice to launch a girl band and an incredible affinity to food are the main hallmarks of the style which is rooted in Mediterranean warmth.

The basic Cotes Du Rhone styles are easy to enjoy and fun to share but the range from the valley is enough to keep you interested for years.

My faves are the world-famous Chateauneuf Du Pape with their embossed bottles but if you want to blow your mind, try one of the deep, incredible wines from the Hermitage region. Yeah, they tend to blow your budget, but since your mind will surely follow, who cares.

Cote Du Rhone, Gabriel Allard

I had this one with a medium fillet steak and mushrooms and all I can say is what a real treat it was. Layer upon layer of juicy red fruits, silky tannins and a spicy finish.

M&S Collection

Crozes Hermitage

Yes, my love affair with the M&S collection continues with this gorgeous and rather generous Crozes Hermitage. It's got enough spicy fruits to fill a Christmas cake and a generous dollop of pepper on the finish.
