What is it?

A precision cordless hair clipper with tons of features.

Lockdown is aptly named for me as it's been so long since I've entered a barber shop that my locks are down to the ground. It's not an isolated scenario – pardon the pun – as a recent online training course allowed me to see how others are faring in the hair department. Spoiler: not good.

Thankfully, there are plenty of foolproof DIY devices out there to tame beastly barnets. The Philips Hair Clipper Series 9000 is one such product that focuses on self-usage and is ideal for the current situation.

Good points?

A digital swipe interface allows you to scroll through more than 400 length settings on the touch screen. This gives granular precision of 0.1 millimetre steps to find the exact limit setting that's right for you without guessing or involving trial and error tests.

Three adjustable motorised combs give lengths from one millimetre to 42mm. Their locking mechanism is impressive and gives confidence that it won't unclip and give you a 41mm width stripe of 0.5mm hair down your head.

A powerful lithium-ion battery gives 120 minutes of cordless usage after a one-hour charge. It can also be used while corded and charging.

Bad points?

Although the cutting turbo boost is adequate for the job, it doesn't feel as powerful as other clippers on the market and those with a thick mane might need to tackle the job in increments.

Best for ...

Those who need total control over every strand without the maintenance hassle of traditional clippers. The self-sharpening titanium blades give the clippers added durability.
