Eleven venues along the East Coast railway mainline are opening their doors this weekend in an expanded lineup of art, poetry and heritage. A growing number of artists based in refurbished station buildings will open up their studios to the public alongside local heritage centres. Connected by the famously scenic main railway line linking London, Edinburgh and the South to Aberdeen and the North, the venues will showcase painting, craft, poetry, jewellery and local history. Some work is for sale.

BonFest

East Muirhead of Logie Farm, Kirriemuir, tomorrow to Sunday

He’s been hailed as one of the greatest frontmen of all time and the sleepy burgh of Kirriemuir in Angus has never forgotten the lead singer of AC/DC Bon Scott. Born in Forfar and raised in the burgh until he was six, this three-day international festival is expecting to see rock fans from across the globe bring Kirriemuir to life as it remembers its most successful son for a 12th year. As well as the evening events, there will also a host of free live music gigs in local venues.

In conjunction with Live Music Now Scotland, the extremely successful free one-hour taster concerts Music at Paxton…Plus return to the Music at Paxton Festival. This year, the festival welcomes Scelerisque Duo on Sunday. Music at Paxton…Plus gives members of the public the opportunity to experience exceptional chamber music in the beautiful surrounds of the Picture Gallery. These taster sessions are designed to be informal and because they are free and last just 60 minutes, they are an ideal way to experience chamber music for the first time.

Beer and Music Festival

The tenth annual event is the largest indie beer and music festival in the Highlands. Boasting more than 140 real ales, ciders, and craft beers from both Scotland and all over the world, visitors can expect live music, speciality food, whisky, charity stalls, and a barbecue.

Drake Music Scotland 20th anniversary

Drake Music Scotland marks two decades of creating music making opportunities for people with disabilities. This vibrant 11-day showcase of Scotland’s thriving traditional arts prepares to wind down this weekend. Celebrating activity that is already happening throughout the year, it showcases the many diverse cultures that exist in the capital today, including the Battle of the Folk Bands at Pleasance Theatre on Sunday which showcases a quintet of rising traditional musicians pairing heritage with a contemporary spin.
