Expensive holidays are no longer necessary to enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean, following the launch of a new company.

The quaintly named Little Donkey sells artisan foods made from the best of Greek produce.

Created from raw materials from the sunkissed countryside, the high quality foods are inextricably linked with the benefits of the Mediterranean diet.

Research over the last few years has consistently shown the health benefits of the traditional diet of the people living in Mediterranean countries and the Little Donkey aims to share those benefits with everyone.

“We have decided to launch the series of new 100 per cent healthy Greek products because we believe that the Mediterranean and the Greek diet in particular is the best in the world,” said Glasgow-based businessman George Kottaridis. “Moreover the products we are launching are new in the market all around the world and there is nothing similar in any markets.”

The company insists on high standards and the application of environmentally friendly production practices to produce quality foods that are of high nutritional value.
“Our patience in the search for producers all around Greece resulted in the finding of creditable and trustworthy farmers who respect their finalised products and strive to make Greek farming excellent,” explains George.

The food company has been called the Little Donkey because of the animal’s long association with Greek farmers who value the donkey for its patience, tirelessness and great strength.

The products sold by the company are aimed at giving consumers the same fitness, so that they can reach their health goals and live life to the full.

Only top quality certified ingredients are used in the products with no added colours, flavours, sweeteners or artificial preservatives.

Made and packaged in controlled batches to ensure freshness and high nutritional value, they can be easily adapted into everyday life and used in a variety of recipes or just enjoyed on their own.

Available online and from selected shops and gyms in Glasgow the products feature Greek honey, which is noted for its high quality and unique flavour and has been used in Greece for thousands of years not only as a food but also as a medicinal therapy.

It can be bought on its own or as a spread with peanuts containing only fresh, unsalted nuts.

Studies have found that the consumption of peanuts can help prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

With its wonderful warm and sweet flavour, cinnamon is another delicious ingredient used in the spreads.

As with all the ingredients, it is not added just because it’s tasty but because it has a lot of health benefits as well.

In a recent study, researchers found that a diet rich in spices, like cinnamon and turmeric, helped curb the negative effects of downing a fatty meal. Cinnamon has been shown to slow stomach emptying, which curbs the sharp rise in blood sugar following meals, and improves the effectiveness, or sensitivity of insulin.

Almonds are also used by the company for their health giving properties as they are a source of vitamin E, copper, magnesium, and high quality protein.
