Popular Japanese fusion eatery Wagamama will officially open its doors at the Glasgow Fort on Monday.

The fresh addition to the existing portfolio of restaurants brings 40 new jobs to the area. The 170-seat restaurant also offers al fresco dining for those warmer sunny days.

Craigend teenager Ryan McAnenay will be one of the fresh faces welcoming customers to the restaurant.

The 19-year-old can't wait to get started in his new role after being unemployed for over a year.

The Glasgow University maths student said: "I can finally live now that I have this job. I was living the proper student life and I was not able to do anything.

"Now that I have a bit of money I can help my mum out."

He added: "It was good for a big company to come along and give us all these jobs "I am excited about Monday, I've enjoyed the training and I can't wait to get started."

All the usual favourites will be on offer including Wagamama's famed ramen, bowls of fragrant soup filled with noodles plus meat or vegetables.

Spice enthusiasts can enjoy the much-loved prawn firecracker and the new tofu chilli salad offers a fresh and crunchy treat.

The menu also boasts favourites such as the chicken katsu curry. In Glasgow's Silverburn around 700 katsu chicken curry are sold a week, which proves how popular the dish is.

Those after a light bite can enjoy small plates such as chicken gyozas or edamame beans shaken with chilli and salt, alongside an extensive choice of fresh juices, desserts and beverages.

The diner also offers a kids menu.

The Fort restaurant is part of a new design that encourages interaction with chefs as they prepare your meals.

Chef Garry Rae, from Motherwell, was previously working at Silverburn before coming to the Glasgow Fort branch.

He said: "The food is so fresh and no one else offers what we do at the Glasgow Fort. What we cook, we prep that day and serve that day. The integrity of the food in second to none in Wagamama.

"You will not get that anywhere else."

His recommendations included, "If you are looking for something spicy definitely the firecracker. The Glasgow staple diet is definitely the chicken katsu. Fried chicken seems to be a popular thing for Glasgow and it is a lovely dish, it is a favourite.

"We do a great range of vegetarian food as well, in fact we do amazing vegetarian food."
