Have you ever dreamed of sinking the ball into the hole on the 18th and lifting the trophy? On the world-famous championship Ailsa course at Turnberry? If you play golf at all … then of course you have! And now The Herald is offering you the chance to do just that.
This year The Herald, in association with Trump Turnberry, is launching The Herald Golf Series, a unique competition open to all golfers.
And the exciting news doesn’t end there. There are fantastic golfing package prizes up for grabs including a two-night stay at Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Resort in Portugal’s Algarve region.
There are no restrictions … anyone can enter. All you have to do is put togther a team of four, fill out the entry form … and get practising.
Teams can comprise groups of club members, friends, colleagues, families … from beginners to lifelong players. All qualifying rounds will be played on Sundays, between June 30 and September 29 on The King Robert The Bruce Course, with the grand final held on The Ailsa, Trump Turnberry, October 20.
Entrants will play Stableford four-ball game with a halfway pick-me-up of tea, coffee and bacon rolls. Four teams from each qualifier day will make the cut to the final, which promises to be a day of outstanding golf on the Ailsa, followed by an evening presentation drinks reception in the clubhouse.
Winners will not only lift the trophy and celebrate with their fellow players, but also be able to look forward to heading to the unbroken blue skies of the Algarve and a two-night stay at the luxurious Pine Cliffs resort.
Other prizes on offer include a two-night stay at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Doonbeg, Ireland, including breakfast and two rounds of golf; a one-night stay at Trump International, Aberdeen with breakfast and two rounds of golf; a one-night stay at Trump Turnberry with breakfast and two rounds of golf.
The Herald Golf Series provides a unique opportunity for golfing friends to play on two of the world’s finest courses – for a fraction of the usual cost.
Regular club golfers will meet players from around the country and the informal atmosphere will give work colleagues a challenge day to remember.
The King Robert The Bruce course at Turnberry, designed by Martin Ebert who was the architect responsible for the reborn Ailsa, is a world-class golf experience which will thrill golfers of all abilities. There are breathtaking views of the stunning coastline, Turnberry castle ruins and the iconic Stevenson-built lighthouse.
The Open Championship Ailsa course, on which the finals will be played, is of course to familiar to golfers the world over. Course architects Mackenzie & Ebert have completed a meticulous review of the course, to create a true masterpiece and The Ailsa has now been ranked by Golf Monthly as the UK & Ireland’s number one golf course.
Prize-winners will also be lucky to experience some of the world’s other much-loved courses. The immaculate Pine Cliffs Golf Course resort in Portugal’s Algarve lies perched 200 feet above the golden sands and blue water of the Atlantic Ocean. The jewel in the Martin Hawtree-designed course is the par three 6th hole – known as the Devil’s Parlour, it requires a shot over cliffs to the green.
No less dramatic, and also designed by Dr Martin Hawtree, is The Trump Golf International Links at Doonbeg on the west coast of Ireland. Spanning a crescent shaped dune-backed beach, the course is one of the “must play” golf courses on the international circuit.
The Herald Golf Series has been designed to introduce golfers of all abilities to a world of unique opportunities … at a price that puts it in easy reach – entry is £260 per team … that’s just £65 each. Qualifiers are played on the King Robert The Bruce course (normally £100 per player).
