It is not just private schools that are among the wealthiest charities (The Herald, February 28).

Also listed are national child-care charities with incomes of between £110,000,000 and £219,456,000.

Of course, voluntary bodies do valuable work but should central and local government support them so extensively? Meanwhile, locally-run community groups, which are long-term at the hard end, struggle to survive.

There is vast inequality within the voluntary sector. The government should ensure some redistribution of resources.
