Daniel Hurley, 31,  was taken to hospital following the industrial accident while working on a £17m housing construction project in Murano Street in the Maryhill area of Glasgow.

Flats are being built at the large site in Murano Street close to Partick Thistle's football ground. The incident was at around 8.30am.

Police and paramedics race to the scene but were unable to save Mr Hurley,  who worked for a sub-contractor of Glasgow-based property developers Morris & Spottiswood.

Mr Hurley lived in Arrowsmith Drive in the Scotstoun area of the city.

The site is part of a £17m development for Queens Cross Housing Association and will see 140 new homes built by Morris & Spottiswood.

It will comprise 32 four storey flats for tenants and the project is due to be completed by next summer.
