A SCULPTOR unveiled her latest exhibition yesterday in the hope of raising awareness of the plight of child soldiers around the world.

The Royal Scottish Academy is hosting Armour Boys by Laura Ford as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival until September 10. Featuring sculptures ofdiminutive men in medieval armour, the exhibition is linked to a series of events organised by Amnesty International Scotland.

An education programme being held includes the screening of the documentaries Lost Children and Rebels Without A Cause in a bid to raise awareness of child soldiers in Africa. Former child soldier Emanuel Jal will give talks on his experience.

Ms Ford said her exhibition was inspired by armoury displays at Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire and seeing her own children play war games.

She added: "I did have pictures of child soldiers up on the studio wall, so these were images I was thinking of but I didn't work directly from them."

The London-based sculptor will join Toby Capwell, Glasgow Museum's curator of arms and armour, at the academy today for a talk on the history of child armour.
