JOHN BROWN, the Clyde manager, will learn today the budget - and possibly the players - he will have available to him next season as he prepares for life in the second division. Relegation almost certainly means that the Broadwood club will revert to part-time football next term and that could mean some of the current crop of players departing for pastures new.

Brown said after the final game that his side will play in the first division - a creditable draw with third-placed Dunfermline - that he would meet with the club's directors today to discover his budgets and find out their thoughts about the club.

As for the game itself, Brown admitted: "The heavy conditions the match was played in torrential rain for a large part were not great but I thought we applied ourselves well in the circumstances and deserved to take something out of the game."

Clyde took the lead slightly against the run of play in the 27th minute when Pat Clarke released Scott Gemmill down the left flank, the makeshift defender cut the ball inside and the ball seemed to stick under the feet of Dunfermline's Alex Burke, who was forced to turn it out for a corner.

Chris Higgins met Willie McLaren's place kick with a glancing header which evaded Paul Gallacher despite Greg Ross' best attempts to clear the ball on the line.

However, Dunfermline deservedly managed to get back on level terms a couple of minutes from the break with a fine solo effort from David Graham, who ran from just inside the Clyde half before unleashing a shot from 20 yards that beat David Hutton in the Clyde goal.

Chances were few and far between in the second period but Nicky Phinn should have won all three points for the home side in the dying seconds, but the midfielder's netbound shot struck his team-mate Andy Kirk and rebounded to safety.

Before the game, two Dunfermline stalwarts - they have 18 years between them at the club - bid farewell to the home support. Club captain Scott Wilson is emigrating to Australia while Scott Thomson looks likely to retire from the game.

Rory Loy and Jamie Mole, who have been on loan from Rangers and Hearts respectively, also played their last games for the Fifers.
