Dumbarton 5 Berwick Rangers 2 Stevie Murray could have been forgiven for exuding an air of arrogance after the diminutive winger spent Saturday afternoon terrorising defenders and leading Dumbarton to a resounding victory inside the Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

Murray, however, responded to questions with a relaxed attitude that belied his explosive on-field performance, where he grabbed his side's third goal with an audacious 30-yard chip after 34 minutes, and was keen not to overstate his individual display.

"I'm really enjoying my football and I think that's showing in the performances," he said. "Not just from me but from a lot of people. I mean, with every goal we scored we had basically every player going to celebrate and it's a kind of togetherness we've got and it's going to stand us in good stead."

The 25-year-old spent most of last season on the periphery at first division side Partick Thistle and insists he has no regrets about dropping down the divisions to be part of manager Jim Chapman's plans. "The manager gives me and Derek Carcary the freedom to go and attack people and you can see the results on the pitch," he said of his manager's commendable desire to play attractive, passing football.

"When I came down here I was blown away by the facilities and the ambitions of the club and everything they want to go and do. I want to be part of that and take Dumbarton up and hopefully move forward with them."

Strikes from Paul McLeod, Murray, two from Ross Clark and one from Liam Cusack saw off a struggling Berwick side who had Gary Greenhill sent off. Allan McGonigal, the Berwick manager, said: "We've just got to pick ourselves up and fast forward to next week."
