Can anyone list the qualities which, they think Nick Faldo has, that will make him a good captain? Good players do not necessarily make good captains/managers.

He did not come forward to be a previous vice-captain, and he will not listen to past winning captains that are telling him he needs four vice-captains, one to follow each game in progress and keep him updated, while he keeps his eye on the big picture. This is not because he didn' pick Colin Montgomerie - he did not deserve to be there. Clark should have been, but then Faldo would have had to have left his buddy Poulter out.

Faldo is the man who told these players they would never progress because they were too friendly with opponents.

He was a loner, but also the one who accepted a win in a world matchplay competition at Wentworth against Graham Marsh when his ball rolled through the back of the green and came flyying back on to it at waist height after a short pause.

Please tell me good players can win with a bad captain. Billy Wylie, Lenzie

If there is one sporting event I would dearly love to see on terrestrial television it is the Ryder Cup. My son has Sky but he lives in London. None of my friends has Sky. I live in the country and the nearest pub with a TV is five miles away. But it doesn't have Sky either. Maybe by the time it comes to Loch Lomond the Beeb will have saved up enough money to buy the rights. dream on. Jock Kerr, via email
