After weeks’ of deliberation and site visits across the length and breadth of the country, the judges of The Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2024 have revealed the names of the finalists who are in contention for the industry’s top titles.
Amongst them are local authorities, housing associations, large-volume construction firms and niche builders working across a wide range of the country’s built landscape, from family homes, luxury properties, redevelopment projects and individual designs.
The sheer number of finalists this year is testament to the quality of the homes that are being built by Scotland’s construction sector and one of the longest shortlists belongs to the Affordable Housing Development of the Year category, sponsored by NHBC.
No fewer than 11 developments are in the running for the title, including Ferguslie Park in Paisley where Renfrewshire Council and AS Homes (Scotland) have created 101 new energy-efficient homes and North Sighthill, where Edinburgh City Council and Anderson Bell Christie have developed 184 new properties, including accessible and family homes.
This year the Best Apartment category has also resulted in a long list of finalists, including apartments by Westpoint Homes at Cottonyards in New Gorbals and by Carmichael Homes at their Water of Leith development in Edinburgh.
Meanwhile Robertson Homes have put in a good showing, being shortlisted four times including The Best Family Home (Large) category, sponsored by Vision Spaces and in the Best Luxury Home category, sponsored by Ross & Liddell.
There are awards too for both commercial and residential regeneration projects and one of the most interesting developments in the first category is the innovative rebirth of the iconic Rosebank Distillery in Falkirk by MLA, while in the residential category the work by Sanctuary Scotland and Collective Architecture to sweep away outdated tower blocks in Burns Road, Cumbernauld, and replace them with modern, affordable homes is an example of how thoughtful redevelopment can change lives.
From renovations and conversions to show homes and sustainable developments, Part of the shortlist will once again highlight some of the most progressive property businesses, recognising their contribution to clients, their own companies and to the entire Scottish property industry. For sponsors, the publication of the finalists is a welcome sign that the awards ceremony itself is drawing closer.
Mike Smith, Head of SafeDeposits Scotland, said this week: “We are delighted to see another group of fantastic businesses recognised as finalists for the Residential Letting Team of the Year category, and send our congratulations to these and all finalists across every category on their achievement.”
Stefan Szymoszowskyj, NHBC Regional Director - Scotland said: “Congratulations to all of the finalists at this year’s Herald Property Awards. We are delighted to be sponsoring the Affordable Housing Development of the Year category, celebrating the best in the industry and highlighting their great achievements. We're committed to driving the development of quality homes and we are looking forward to seeing this in action at The Herald Property Awards later this year..”
And James Ward, Managing Director of Lowther, said: “I’d like to congratulate all the finalists in this year’s new ‘Excellence in Sustainability’ Award.
“As the country’s largest private-rent property company, we know what it takes to deliver award-winning homes and outstanding services.
“Lowther is proud to be sponsoring this new award as it recognises the innovation and outstanding achievements within the sector which help meet its environmental targets.”
and Ewan Mclean, Managing Director of MPH Group said: “ We are delighted to congratulate all the finalists of the Herald Property Awards 2024. It is an honour to witness the remarkable talent and dedication that each nominee has brought to their projects, particularly in the "Best Renovation & Conversion" category that we proudly sponsor. This category showcases the transformative power of innovative design and skilled craftsmanship. The projects nominated have demonstrated exceptional creativity, functionality, and aesthetic appeal, setting the standards in property renovation and conversion.“

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
