SCOTCH whisky giant Beam Suntory has revealed it is to contribute two “exceptional” lots to an auction that will aim to raise more than £1 million for charity.

Beam is donating a one-of-a-kind Bowmore Onyx 51 year-old single malt and two rare casks of Highland malt Glen Garioch to the auction, which is being led by The Distillers’ Charity, the philanthropic arm of The Worship Company of Distillers.

The Bowmore Onyx is presented in a “striking, hand-blown black glass vessel, containing 1.4 litres of ultra-rare whisky”, while the Glen Garioch casks come in a bespoke cradle crafted by cabinet-maker Lethenty; it is accompanied by a copper valinch designed by still-maker Forsyths.

Fellow distiller William Grant & Sons is also donating lots to The Distillers One of One auction, including a four-decanter set of one-off bottlings from Glenfiddich distilled in the 1950s. The auction is being hosted with Sotheby’s at Barnbougle Castle in Edinburgh on December 3.

The monies raised will benefit The Youth Action Fund, created by The Distillers’ Charity to support disadvantaged young people in Scotland.

Through charity partners, youngsters will be offered educational and vocational training programmes, including in distilling, to help them develop life skills.
