From Manhattan to Glasgow. 63rd+1st opened last month and General Manager Sian O’Brien has given us the inside scoop on the hottest place for a cocktail in Glasgow

Gone are the days when you have to fly thousands of miles to experience a taste of Manhattan. This is thanks to the opening of 63rd+1st, a brand new Cocktail Bar and Restaurant in Glasgow, located on Bothwell Street and just a short walk from Glasgow Central Station.

Named after 63rd Street and 1st Avenue in Manhattan, New York – the plus symbol in the logo represents these origins as the place where two roads meet, and demonstrate the brand’s philosophy of doing more for its guests.

We caught up with General Manager, Sian O’Brien, who successfully launched the brand at its first location in Cobham in May 2021 alongside a talented management team.  

The passionate and personable manager jumped at the opportunity to return home to Scotland to lead the 63rd+1st Glasgow team following a number of managerial roles in England. 

“63rd+1st celebrates the principles of classic cocktails, quality food and legendary atmosphere. What I love about this company is that our style is welcoming, social and casual but professional and educated all at once.” Sian continued, “Two or more is the rule at 63rd+1st – we let our guests decided whether that’s food, drink and company! Although if you do turn up on your own, it is also the perfect environment to meet people.”

The bar is the focal point of the beautiful restaurant and offers a huge selection of cocktails, spirits, beers and wine.  

Speaking of the bar team, Sian said, “Our amazing team members are all experts in their field. Creating delicious and eloquent drinks is their craft. They exude a passion for cocktails and service which is vital as we run on the belief that the more we do, the more our guests will want.”

She continued, “You can relax in our lounge area or sit at the bar and watch the team create a cocktail specific to your mood. We can recommend anything from our playful Harvey Wallbanger to a confident Espresso Martini, a timeless Negroni to a classic Long Island Iced tea.”

63rd+1st represents the coming together of many things, people, culture, tastes and styles. Its eclectic food menu ensures that it caters for everyone during all times of the day. This includes sharing plates that can be enjoyed with handcrafted cocktails, weekend brunch and a weekday Lunch Club with favourite dishes for £4 when two or more are ordered.

Sian explained, “Our food menu is centred on smaller, sharing plates, allowing you the freedom to choose more and try new things. Keith Shearer, our Group Executive Chef, designed a menu that was inspired by New York’s different cultures and truly represents the Manhattan food scene."

Those with a sweet tooth are advised to leave some room for the perfect finish. Sian added, “Our belief is that ‘Life Tastes Better Shared’ so order at least one of our exquisite desserts and just ask for two spoons!

With plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, there's something to suit everyone's taste at 63rd+1st.

63rd+1st is the perfect place for the early morning crowd to grab fresh coffee and easy breakfasts at the weekend, commuters who fancy popping in for one, or two and as far as Sian is concerned, is one of the “best restaurants in Glasgow” to indulge in a handcrafted martini after a shopping spree.

“To say we are excited to bring the second ever 63rd+1st venue to Glasgow would be an understatement. We have always felt the love and loyalty from our Scottish guests and we can’t wait for them to join us and be spoilt by the 63rd+1st experience,” Sian concluded.

The first location opened in Cobham, Surrey, in May 2021 with the second location following suit in Glasgow, Scotland in September 2021. The next location will open in Harrogate, North Yorkshire in November 2021, with scope for 10 plus sites by the end of 2023.
