A FALL in corporate insolvencies in Scotland last year has been described as a “distorted view of reality”.

There were 466 company insolvencies in Scotland over the course of 2020, 25 fewer than in 2019, analysis from KPMG found. However, the accountancy giant noted that businesses had been supported throughout 2020 by government measures to mitigate the fallout from the pandemic.

Blair Nimmo, head of restructuring for KPMG in the UK, said: “While the breadth and depth of support measures available have provided a vital lifeline to Scotland’s business community, these figures provide a distorted view of reality. “
