HARRISON & Hetherington sold 79 clean cattle, 50 cast cows, 1,171 lambs, 40 hoggs and 252 cast ewes at St Boswells yesterday.
Thirty-six prime heifers sold to 242p/kg and averaged 214p (-8p), while 38 prime bullocks peaked at 229p and levelled at 212p (-8p). Five young bulls sold to 212p to average 190p (-10p).
In the rough ring cast cows sold to a top of £1,507 and 183p to average 144 (-3p).
Prime lambs sold to £126 and 267p for Texels to average £100 or 242p overall (+3p).
In the cast sheep ring ewes averaged £82 overall. Heavy ewes peaked at £130 and averaged £97, while light ewes sold to £87 for Cheviots and averaged £75.
The firm also sold 16 prime heifers in Carlisle on Monday to a top of 236p/kg and an average of 207p (+3p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 216p and levelled at 197p (+3p). Three dairy bred prime bullocks sold to 182p and averaged 170p (+18p).
There was also a total of 110 young bulls at the sale which averaged 159p (-9p). The 60 beef-bred bulls sold to 214p and averaged 175p (-9p), while 50 dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184p and levelled at 140p (-10p).
In the rough ring 232 cast dairy cows sold to 167p and averaged 109p, while 143 cast beef cows peaked at 215p to average 139p (-1p). Four cast bulls sold to 166p and averaged 139p (-1p).
There were also 1,600 prime lambs that sold to £134 and 319p to average 246p overall (-6p).
Cast sheep sold up to £120 for a single Texel with 74 heavy ewes averaging £84 (+£7), while 38 light ewes peaked at £77 for a Leicester and levelled at £56 (-£8).
Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,207 prime and cast sheep at Ayr yesterday. The 909 new season prime lambs sold to £120 for a heavyweight Texel and to 278p/kg for a pen of six Texel cross Beltex lambs to average 240p (+24p on the year), while 55 prime hoggs peaked at £86 and 196p for Texel crosses . The 243 cast sheep sold to £160 for a single Beltex ewe with Texel crosses to £142, while Mules peaked at £73 and Blackfaces to £66.
Lawrie and Symington sold 51 prime bullocks and heifers at Lanark yesterday which peaked at £1,558 and 260p/kg for heifers, while bullocks sold to £1390 and 234p.
Cast beef cows sold to £1,275 and 164p, while cast dairy cows topped at £1045 and 148p.
The 337 prime lambs sold to £130 for a single Texel and to 290p/kg for Beltex to average 245p overall.
Cast sheep peaked at £169 for a Texel with Blackfaces selling to £76.
