A Glasgow bar owner this week warned there is a “ticking time bomb” under the licensed trade as campaigners step up efforts to ensure the sector gets more support to survive the Covid-19 crisis.

Rodney Taylor, who runs Drury Street Bar & Kitchen, said huge numbers of businesses in the city centre are missing out on lifeline funding because of the approach taken by ministers to determine who is eligible for emergency grants.

In another of our best-read stories this week, Scottish biotech firm Omega Diagnostics said it is within weeks of ramping up production on a laboratory test to identify those who have built up immunity to Covid-19 following a newly-announced agreement with Bedfordshire-based Mologic.
