Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 166 prime and cast cattle at their sale at Ayr on Tuesday.

Like other centres this week the auctioneers reported that handy weight butchers cattle were maintaining

recent rates.

Fourteen prime heifers sold to a top of £1,469 or 249p/kg for a Charolais to average 220p overall, while four prime bullocks peaked at £1,280 for a Limousin or 220p for a Charolais to average 210p.

In the rough ring 40 cast beef cows sold to £1,180 on three occasions and to 154p for a Limousin to average 120p overall, while 84 cast dairy cows sold to £880 and 120p for the same Holstein to level at 97p. Four cast bulls were topped at £1,450 and 132p for a Limousin to average 117p. Eleven clean OTM bullocks sold to £860 for an Ayrshire and to 154p for a Beef Shorthorn, while nine heifers topped at £1,080 for a British Blue and at 158p for a Simmental.

Lawrie and Symington sold 506 store cattle at their weekly sale at Lanark

on Tuesday.

Bullocks topped at £1,250 for a Limousin or 274p/kg for a Limousin Cross to average 227p.

Heifers peaked at £1,305 for a Limousin or 248p for a Limousin Cross to level at 212p.

Dairy bullocks sold to £875 and averaged 155p.

C&D Auctions sold 452 cattle at its fortnightly store sale in Dumfries on Tuesday.

Grazing cattle met the greatest demand with Limousin cross bullocks selling to 242p/kg and Aberdeen Angus bullocks peaking at £1,125, while Limousin cross heifers topped at £1,100 and 237p.

The firm also held its weekly sale of primestock in Dumfries yesterday which included a small number of OTM cattle which sold to £973 and

128p/kg.

There were also 712 prime hoggets which would be sharper on

the week.

Seven hoggets (25.5 -32kg) sold to £62 and 194p to average 162p.

Three hundred and ten hoggets (32.1-39kg) peaked at £93 and 244p to level at 238p.

One hundred and forty-three hoggets topped at £98 and 245p to average 221p.

Two hundred and fifty-two hoggets (46+kg) sold to £102 and 220p to average 189p. Some 301 cast ewes maintained recent rates when they sold to £140 for Texels.

Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,158 prime and cast sheep in Newton Stewart yesterday.

The 1,002 prime hoggets maintained recent rates when they sold to £113 and 235p/kg for a Beltex to average 201p overall. The 461 Blackface hoggets also averaged 201p selling to £93 and 226p. Nine new season lambs sold to £100 for Suffolks and averaged 219p.

All classes of cast sheep would be harder to cash on the week selling to £119 for a

Pure Texel.
