Wallets Marts Ltd sold 105 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1145 per head and 204.5p per kg to average £833.81 or 188.6p per kg, while 153 store bullocks peaked at £1170 and 229.6p to level at £937.75 and 201.3p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1222 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £102 per head and 228.4p per kg to average 195.6p (+4.8p on the week).
Cast sheep were also dearer on the week with 291 heavy ewes selling to £127 for Texels and averaging £71.40, while 401 light/export-type ewes peaked at £55 for Blackfaces and levelled at £47.92.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 35 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 243p and an average of 217p (-1.8p), while 15 prime bullocks also peaked at 243p but levelled at 214p (-1.6p).
In the rough ring 70 beef cows sold to 208p and averaged 132p (+5p).
There were also 1945 prime hoggs that sold to £122 and 256p to average 196p (+5p).
The 363 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £143 for a Texel and average £74, while light ewes peaked at £75 for Cheviots and levelled at £50.
The firm also sold 27 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 224.5p and an average of 198.4p (-8p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 226.5p and levelled at 201.6p (-9.1p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 159.5p and averaged 151.5p (-15p). Forty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 229.5p and averaged 189.1p (-3.1p), while 54 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 160.5p and levelled at 138.7p (-13.2p).
In the rough ring 118 beef cows sold to 197.5p and averaged 131p (+1p), while 221 dairy cows peaked at 168.5p and levelled at 95.9p (-0.2p). Eight bulls sold to 123.5p and averaged 110.4p (-8.7p).
There were also 1457 prime hoggs that sold to £115.80 and 300p to average 193.4p (-0.4p).
Fifty-five heavy cast ewes averaged £77.96 and 100 light ewes levelled at £53.27.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 26 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 253p and an average of 243p (+!p), while 6 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 234p and levelled at 228p (+1p). Six prime, B&W bullocks sold to 149p and averaged 138p (no change), while three prime bulls averaged 206p (+11p).
In the rough ring 39 beef cows averaged 119p (+9p) and 38 dairy cows levelled at 95p (+5p). A bull fetched 118p.
There were also 1978 prime hoggs that sold to £106 and 242p to average 195p (+3p).
The 225 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £152 for a Texel and averaged £78.18, while 767 light ewes peaked at £70 for a Cheviot and levelled at £46.40.
