Scottish Dairy Farmer of the Year: Wm Hamilton & Son of Meldrum, Blairdrummond where 825 Holsteins yield on average 11,955kg of milk , with a first calving age of 23.5 months and a calving index of 379 days.
Scottish Sheep Farmer of the Year: Husband and wife team Charley & Andrea Walker, Barnside, Abbey Saint Bathans, Duns where they run 840 Easycare ewes and 220 hoggs as well as 90 Welsh Black beef cows.
Scottish Beef Farmer of the Year: The Fleming Family, Castle Sinniness, Glenluce where they run 220 AAX beef cows as well as 65 Roussin ewes, between 250 and 600 grazing cattle on a contract basis, and overwintering 250 ewe hoggs.
Scottish Arable Farm of the Year: South Redbog, near Strichen, Aberdeenshire run by Peter Chapman and his family.
AgriScot Business Skills winner: Andrew McGregor a dairy farmer from Carluke.
Dairy clamp silage class: Andrew Baird, Auchontroch, Lesmahagow - analysis 34.7 dry matter (DM), 12.3 metabolizable energy (ME) and 14.8 crude protein (CP).
Beef & Sheep class: Lilburn Estates, North Middleton, Wooler - analysis 40.9DM, 11.1ME and 14.5CP.
Big bale class: Colin Davidson, Halmyre, Castle Douglas - analysis 40.5DM, 12.1 ME and 14.9CP.
AgriScot Product Innovation Award; Herdwatch for a farm management app that allows farmers to record farm events on their smartphone, tablet or PC, anytime, anywhere, even without internet connectivity.
Herdwatch is BCMS (British Cattle Movement Service) and Red Tractor compliant and enables the recording of animal welfare and traceability events in order to maintain compliance with relevant legislation.
Herdwatch then adds value to these records by combining them with management information already in the system, saving the average farmer two hours per week for an annual subscription of £130.
Market round-up
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 163 store heifers in Lanark on Tuesday to a top of 239p per kg and an average of 205p, while 208 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 275p and levelled at 217p. Thirty-six store, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 163p and averaged 141p.
